Disney Golden Globes Preview

The Golden Globes are tonight (woop!), and Disney was nominated in a number of categories. Let’s recap so you can go into your GG viewing as informed as possible on the Disney contenders:

Emma Thompson, Saving Mr. Banks
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama

We loved Emma Thompson’s expert turn as the Mary Poppins author, P.L. Travers, who has absolutely no intention of handing her beloved nanny over to Disney. In a role that could have easily been played as an uncompromising caricature, Thompson manages to make Travers real, complex, and relatable. As B.J. Novak says in the video, “I think only someone with a great sense of humor could play someone so serious, because she brings so much light into this character.”

Frozen
Best Animated Feature Film

We’ve already dedicated many an article to Frozen, and it’s safe to say we’re not the only ones who love this instant classic.

“Let It Go”
Best Original Song, Motion Picture

This song is obviously epic. The Idina Menzel version (above), the Demi Lovato version, and the Maddie and Zoe version have all gotten an incredible response from fans. Plus, the soundtrack itself knocked Beyonce out of the #1 spot on the Billboard charts. Beyonce. We rest our case.

Also, Disney favorite and Saving Mr. Banks star, Tom Hanks, will be presenting tonight! Don’t miss it.
