Walt Disney Studios just announced that production has begun on Into The Woods, their adaptation of the excellent Sondheim musical, on location in England. Why aren’t we in those woods?! We couldn’t be more excited! WE WANT TO BE IN THE WOODS.
Here’s why: This cast just might be the greatest cast ever assembled. Meryl Streep as the witch (ahhh!), Emily Blunt as the baker’s wife (can do no wrong), James Corden as the baker (yay!), Anna Kendrick as Cinderella (we love), Chris Pine as Cinderella’s Prince (swoon), Johnny Depp as the wolf (AH!), Christine Baranski as the stepmother (amazing), and Tracey Ullman as Jack and the beanstalk’s mother (snap!) among others. Again: why aren’t we on set witnessing this magic unfold?
As if the amazing cast and the production team (Rob Marshall, James Lapine, and Sondheim himself) isn’t great enough, the studio has announced that Sondheim is writing A NEW SONG just for the movie. Musical fans the world over rejoice! This is huge news.
Into the Woods will give us a chance to see some of favorite fairy tale characters in a whole new way. Christmas 2014 can’t come soon enough!
