When it comes to being meaningful, these characters really nail it. On more than one level. They’re meaningful in terms of the important roles they play in their individual films, and their names have meanings far beyond their part in said films. Here are some examples:
Lumiere means light in French.
He certainly lights up Be Our Guest, doesn’t he?
Simba means lion in Swahili.
A little on the nose, but still good.
Rafiki means friend in Swahili.
We wish he was our friend.
Belle means beautiful in French.
Her name means beautiful, plus she’s got brains and a kind heart? #UnfairAdvantage
LeFou means the fool in French.
Poor guy. Are you okay, LeFou?
Aurora means the dawn in English.
Her parents knew this when they named her. But that doesn’t make it less apropos.
Flora is English for the plant life from a particular place or period in time.
Her name involves plants and it sounds like the beginning of the word floral? Well played.
Fauna is English for the animal life from a particular place or period in time.
We’re not 100% sure what to say about this one, except that we think this name sounds pretty. And animals are pretty awesome.
Flotsam and Jetsam is an English term meaning the floating wreckage from a ship
Well… they do float. Around the sea. Near abandoned ships.
Madame de la Grande Bouche means lady with the big mouth in French.
We think that’s because she’s fierce. And nobody messes with our Madame. (Try and you’ll end up #Bouched.)
