We find that people like to ask this question for funsies: “If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only bring three things, what three things would they be?”
They’ve asked us. Often. But we don’t think it’s a fair question. We think we should be able to bring three things from many different categories. We feel gypped with just three total. Who could choose between food and companionship and shelter and still come out a winner? No one. So, we made up our own game. What three items from many many arbitrary categories would we bring if someone asked us to make the ultimate OMD desert island list?
We’re glad you asked.
Rufus from The Rescuers
He just always knows what to say. We find him comforting, and being stuck on a desert island seems like a time when we might need a few words of encouragement.
Genie from Aladdin
He’s like 50 different kinds of entertainment all rolled into one.
Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean
He’s resourceful, he’s dashing, and he’s the king of comic relief.
No further explanation needed.
“It’s Gonna Be Great” from Winnie the Pooh
Upbeat? Check. Motivational? Check. Tiggerific? Check again.
“A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes”
Guys, it’s just so hopeful.
That’s just good sense.
Goofy’s surfboard (circa the Hawaiian Holiday short)
Desert island + silver lining = tropical vacation
Captain Hook’s pirate ship
We feel like this one’s a gimme. Also it comes with a crew of pirates who like to dance. So…
White Rabbit’s House
Before Alice accidentally destroyed it by growing too tall, it looked pretty great. We’re really into that roof.
It has tons of reading material and is up in a tree where animals can’t find us. Win win!
As long as one isn’t banished to it, we bet the views are lovely.
Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast
Singing forks, dancing knives, and a multi-layered cutlery final crescendo? Sold.
I Just Can’t Wait To Be King from The Lion King
The whole herd gets in on this one, and it’s colorful and delightful. We can’t wait either, Simba. We can’t wait either.
Trashin’ the Camp from Tarzan
Take this as our first official act as the only members of the “We Want to Be Friends With Terk from Tarzan” fan club.
We’re very big on fruits and veggies. Our moms taught us well.
Why Should I Worry?
We think the cats and dogs of Oliver & Company were really onto something. Control what’s within your control and the rest will unfold.
It’ll do magic, believe it or not!
Look for the bare necessities.
Baloo’s right, and being stranded means making the best of things. Also, if we’re not mistaken, this motto’s scene also comes with a lesson in how to pick fruit from trees without getting hurt. Sweet.
We feel much better now. And prepared for anything. And finding ourselves craving churros. Again.
