Our family began visiting Disney World when my sons were five and seven, and are still amazed at the magic we witness each time we go now that they are 14 and 16. One particular instance of magic involved one of our favorite rides – The Pirates of the Caribbean.
It was our fourth trip and we anxiously arrived at the Magic Kingdom and headed straight for the Pirates, only to find our favorite ride was closed for the week for maintenance. We spoke to a Cast Member who explained and apologized. There was a Captain Jack show beginning soon, and he made sure my boys participated, but it just wasn’t the same. We left to find our other favorites with a heavy heart.
After a day of riding and seeing so many wonderful things, we arrived at the Liberty Tavern for our dinner — only to find a Captain Jack hat for each of our sons and a handwritten note from the Captain himself! Even though we did not get to take our voyage with him, my boys could not stop talking about how close they came to meeting the “real” Captain Jack Sparrow. To this day, I have absolutely no idea how this was accomplished or how I could ever thank those responsible. It could only have been Disney Magic.
