Walt Disney Studios has just released a new trailer for their highly anticipated upcoming film, Maleficent. If you’re anything like us, you’ll be in a hurry to get right to watching it, so without further ado:

This trailer is exciting to watch for a number of reasons. For starters, it’s got a ton of new footage from the film to pore over for details. We get to see an extended look at Maleficent’s wings, and some hints at why she isn’t wearing them in every single scene. We also get a longer look at a number of the film’s principal players such as Sharlto Copley, wearing a crown and draped in furs, as well as a quick glimpse of Sam Riley, who makes a surprising transformation. There are a ton of fantastic creatures on display, from fairies to giants to fire-breathing dragons. And of course, last but definitely not least, is Angelina Jolie. In only two short minutes, we see that there is more to Maleficent than we might have thought, her scenes here ranging from smiling beauty to magic-wielding warrior, and then some.

Want to know more? Here is the film’s official synopsis:

“Maleficent” explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty” and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.

When it comes to the true story of Maleficent, there is still much more to learn when the film comes to theatres on May 30, 2014.
