The first previews of Disney’s new musical comedy Aladdin are set to begin on Broadway in just over a month. Coming to the New Amsterdam Theatre, Aladdin is a brand-new stage production directed and choreographed by Tony Award® winner Casey Nicholaw, and composed by Disney Legend and fellow Tony Award winner Alan Menken. It features lyrics penned by the legendary Howard Ashman and Tony Award winner Tim Rice, with book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin.
Nicholaw recently shared his thoughts about the show’s rehearsals, which are in full swing, praising his cast and crew for not only their incredible work ethic but their passion for putting on a perfect show.
“You want it to be theatrical in a way that people haven’t seen it on film,” said Nicholaw of the adaptation of this animated classic for the stage. “We just hope that the audience will be as involved and touched and moved as we are in rehearsals!”
