Saving Mr. Banks, the story behind the story of the making of Mary Poppins, comes to theaters this December and today we have a sneak peek of the new film.
Saving Mr. Banks marks the first time that Walt Disney is being portrayed in a feature film, and actor Tom Hanks steps into the challenging role (joined by Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers). Tom explains the main conflict of the film’s plot, “P.L Travers is burdened by her past. Walt goes to a substantial distance to take on the past, heal, and turn it into something that is not a burden.”
The movie depicts the 20-year journey leading up to the Mary Poppins world premiere. Director John Lee Hancock understands the unique relationship Walt Disney and P.L. Travers shared. “They are storytellers. I think when he talks to her as a storyteller with passion and a shared background story, that’s what wins her over,” says Hancock.
Saving Mr. Banks opens in theaters this December.
