There is an epic journey happening right now along the California coast. Starting in San Francisco, a group of big-hearted (and swift-footed) Star Wars fans is taking part in Course of the Force, one of the most unique charity runs ever conceived. Styled after the Olympic torch relay, runners are passing a lightsaber hand-to-hand, all the way from Star Wars’ home base on Skywalker Ranch in San Francisco to the footsteps of Comic-Con in San Diego–with a number of stops and events along the way.
In addition to being a celebration of all things Star Wars, Course of the Force will also be raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which receives 100% of proceeds generated by the run. It’s a great reason for Rebels and Empire sympathizers alike to dress up as their most beloved characters and meet some of their favorite pop culture icons. If that wasn’t enough, the official Star Wars website and their partners at Nerdist will be broadcasting daily from the event, so fans from all over the galaxy can follow along for themselves. A number of celebrity guests will even be participating, including Chris Colfer (Glee), Molly Quinn (Castle), and Wilmer Valderrama (That ‘70s Show), as well as the Nerdist himself, Chris Hardwick.
The full Course of the Force schedule can be found online, including stops in Santa Monica, Huntington Beach, and Oceanside. The lightsaber will finish its long journey on Tuesday, July 16th in front of the San Diego Convention Center. Follow along on Twitter for up to the minute photos, videos, and more.
