How do you know what a vacation will really be like? The two best ways we know are to ask someone who’s been, a real person like you – or go yourself. That’s why we sat down with Chett Crockett. Chett and his family have been Disney Vacation Club Members for almost three years. With Disney Vacation Club, Members like the Crocketts have the opportunity to stay at Disney Vacation Club Resorts or more than 500 other destinations around the world. This means there’s ample opportunity to visit favorite destinations over the years and rack up lots of great stories – not only about awesome places to vacation, but more importantly, about those magical moments spent with those you love the most.

What inspired you to become Disney Vacation Club Members?
We’ve been going to Walt Disney World Resort every year since 1998, when my daughter was very young. We would pass by the Disney Vacation Club booths without really paying attention, but finally we said we needed to spend more time vacationing. We purchased in 2010 at four different resorts, and I just added on at The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
Can you tell me a little about deciding to “live life to the fullest”?
Right before we decided to become Members, I was diagnosed with cancer. Everything’s fine now, and I’m almost four years in remission, but it prompted us to take a hard look at what really matters. We have a family business and that’s very demanding, so it’s easy to get wrapped up in work and let family time slip by. We decided we needed to make time to vacation more, and we knew a Disney Vacation Club Membership would make it easier to do that.
Can you share a favorite memory from a trip?
It would probably be taking a Disney Cruise. Really, the whole experience of being on a Disney cruise is amazing. We’ve made a pact – at least one cruise a year! Our first cruise was to The Bahamas, then we’ve had three Caribbean cruises and have another planned in June.
What has surprised you most about Disney Vacation Club Membership?
The one thing that has surprised us the most is that regardless of whether you’re on a ship or at Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas, Ko Olina, Hawai’i, or at Walt Disney World Resort, it feels like everyone knows who you are when you’re at Disney and is glad you’re there. It’s like walking into your home. Everyone tries to make sure you have a great experience.
Is there a place you’ve visited that you would call a “don’t miss”?
I’m waffling between the Caribbean and Hawai’i. Hawai’i is relaxing. It’s like going off the grid and chilling out. Then again, when you reach the islands on a cruise and the water is 90 degrees, it’s just gorgeous!
What would you tell someone who’s considering becoming a Disney Vacation Club Member?
Join yesterday! Don’t waste any more time running numbers. It makes perfect sense. The vacation point system has taught us to organize, to plan out what we want to do. It has made us vacation more. It can be hard connecting with teenagers. My daughter’s 18 now and this is stuff she doesn’t mind doing with her parents. That in itself has a tremendous amount of value.
