Disney has been a huge part of my family’s life, especially since our first trip to Walt Disney World from Christmas to New Year’s in 2005. Then, I was very fortunate to have a Daddy-daughter 21st birthday trip in September, 2009, during the year where you could go to Disney for free on your birthday.
I was lucky to see the Mouses together this trip. As is Disney tradition, I was wearing my birthday button and when Mickey saw it, he started conducting the Cast Members and other guests in the room while Minnie danced. It was a special memory that Daddy and I shared in the past few years.
In the past year, we lost my dad to a hard fought battle with leukemia. To honor his memory and celebrate his life, my mom sisters and I took a trip to Walt Disney World and re-created memories from our first trip. We made sure we visited the very first attraction we experienced, because of our family being full of musicians: Mickey’s Philharmagic. Even though we were hurting, the magic of Disney helped ease the sadness and in some ways made us feel like Dad was with us. I will be celebrating my first birthday without my dad next month and am so thankful that I can celebrate it at Disney World. In many ways, I feel like my dad will be there with my mom and I. Thank you Mr. Disney for creating a place that holds special memories for my family through magical musical moments.
