Millionaire Magic

Hollywood Studios used to have “Who wants to be a millionaire, Play it!”, a live version of the TV game show. There was a person in the hot seat and those in the audience would play along, answering the questions as quickly as they could on keypads. When the person in the hot seat missed an answer, whoever had answered it correctly with the most right answers in the fastest time was next in the hot seat.

My wife and I and three daughters went one day and lo and behold I got in the hot seat. I missed the $25,000 question and that was it for me. After that, we all had millionaire fever so we went back to play the next day. On our way, my seven-year-old said, “Daddy, I don’t want to play I don’t know any of the answers.” I said, “Honey you sit next to me and I’ll tell you the answers, but you have to be really fast with the buttons.” After the person in the hot seat got one of their questions wrong they went to the tote board and it showed my daughter’s seat! The crowd roared as she strode down to the hot seat area, the stagehand adjusting the chair higher for her.

The emcee asked, “What’s your name?”

“Jenna.”

“How old are you?”

“Seven.”

“You know, you’re smarter than all these people,” to which the arena roared and laughed.

Everyone in the audience had a ball. My wife was permitted to help her but she had to answer the questions. It was so memorable to see her little finger pointed up as she said, “B, Tinker Bell, final answer.” They got as far as the $25,000 question before bowing out.

When the next man got up, he said he’d hope he’d do as well as Jenna and the crowd roared. They brought Jenna back to her seat while he was playing. All of a sudden the crowd erupted with cheers as the big screens projected Jenna sitting there, wearing the “Millionaire” hat that she received. That was is 2003 and my family and I still consider this to be one of the best memories, out of all the wonderful memories, that we have made over the years at Walt Disney World.
