If you’re anything like us, you’ve been listening the The Vamps’ new album all week long.
We just can’t get enough of these UK-imports, and Radio Disney is fueling our obsession by doing a Vamps takeover today at 3pm PST! We. cannot. wait.
The four band members—Bradley Simpson, Connor Ball, James McVey, and Tristan Evans—got together through mutual discovery on YouTube. James found Bradley first, they started writing songs together, and the rest was history. But hey, why would we tell the story when you can hear it directly from them? Read on to hear their origin story, musical inspirations, and dreams for the future:
How did you guys get together?
Bradley: James found me on YouTube about three years ago and we decided to form a band and write songs together. Then we found Tristan and Connor, again on YouTube.
Tristan: Then started writing at each other’s houses.
When did you realize that you had something good going on with this group of guys?
James: As soon as we met we clicked instantly, both personally and musically… it was refreshing!
Tristan: I think the main thing about us is that we are a tight unit! The best friends ever. However getting signed was a turning point for us.
How did you come up with your name, The Vamps?
Bradley: We (me and James) were just going through a list of names we had came up with and, yeah, The Vamps just felt right.
Connor: It also means a throwing together of things, which I guess we like to think we did as a band!
How would you describe your music?
Tristan: Indie acoustic-driven pop.
Which bands or artists inspire you as musicians?
Bradley: Personally, I have a pretty eclectic music taste, I like to listen to a lot of different stuff. But I’ve always been heavily influenced by rock guitar bands—I started learning guitar through my love of AC/DC, and Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys are the two big bands for me, in terms of songwriting. Paolo Nutini’s first record heavily influenced me.
Tristan: Blink 182, Arctic Monkeys, All Time Low, and Taylor Swift.
Connor: Bands that inspire me are All Time Low, Blink 182, Sum 41, and You Me At Six.
James: I love country music: Dan and Shay, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Florida Georgia Line, and Rascal Flatts.
How did you react when you found out you were Radio Disney’s ‘N.B.T.’ Featured Artist?
Bradley: Very happy, haha! Its mental… yeah a big thanks to Disney.
James: It’s a big deal for us! We were so shocked and totally amazed!
What are your future goals for your music careers?
Bradley: To keep putting music that we love making out there and play shows for the fans, develop musically as a songwriter and musician, and to keep this going as long as we can, haha.
Tristan: More tours, more music, still best friends!
