Exclusive: Calum Worthy and Raini Rodriguez Talk Austin & Ally and Their Musical Aspirations

The Glee Club Mash-Up from Austin & Ally was just released as part of Disney Channel Play It Loud’s 14 Days of Music! To make things even more exciting, we got an exclusive interview with Raini Rodriguez and Calum Worthy about being on the show, their musical aspirations, and even their favorite Disney Channel shows growing up.

What do you have in common with the character you play on Austin & Ally? How are you different?
Raini: Trish and I are similar in that we’re both sarcastic, sassy, loud, we love funky clothes, and we are both loyal to our friends and family. Some even say we look alike too. We are different in some ways too. She is WAY more lazy than I am and I’ve never been fired from a job like her.
Calum: Dez and I are pretty similar. We both love filmmaking, we both can be a little crazy and we both have best friends named Austin and Ally! Okay… the last one was a lie…

Tell us about the song you perform on the Disney Channel Play It Loud album.
Raini: I performed on the glee mashup song for Austin & Ally. It was an absolute BLAST to record and perform. I had a solo song in it called “I Got That Rock ‘N Roll” and I sang all of the harmonies for the other songs in the mashup too.
Calum: The song I perform on the Play It Loud album is a Glee mash-up. We took a bunch of songs from all of the seasons of A&A and mashed them together.

What was your favorite Disney Channel show growing up?
Raini: That’s So Raven was my favorite show growing up!! I loved Raven so much! That show is what made me want to be on Disney Channel!
Calum: My favourite Disney Channel show growing up was Even Stevens. Beans was da man!

What is coming up next in your music career?
Raini: I’m currently working on writing and recording my own music. I’m performing at different venues and introducing the world to my sound! It’s such a fun journey.
Calum: Over the last few months I have been producing music videos for my show The Coppertop Flop Show. I hope you like them!

What inspires your music?
Raini: I am in love with old school funk and soul music. That’s what I grew up listening to and I want to bring that style back with my music. I love artists like Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, and more!
Calum: A lot of the music I have been writing lately have all been parody songs. Most of the time they are inspired by my flaws (haha).

What do you have to say to your fans reading this?
Raini: First off, I LOVE YOU!! Thank you for always being supportive with everything I do!! I love reading everything y’all send me and getting to see your faces wherever I go! You guys and gals are the best fans ever!! I can’t wait to continue this amazing journey with all of you! <3
Calum: I really hope that you all love Play It Loud as much as we all have had making it. All of the artists on this album are really talented and are going to go far!
